Danger Duck

A suspected shoplifter's getaway was fouled up Friday by a pet duck named Peepers.

The duck is being credited with playing a key role in helping to stop a suspect from fleeing with stolen goods from a Lynnwood shopping center. But police still aren't sure what kind of duck they are dealing with.

"The kind that quacks," police spokeswoman Shannon Sessions offered.

Apparently suspect's girlfriend took her pet duck into a Petco store (WTF?) while suspect went shoplifting next door. Suspect somehow botched his caper, and wound up fleeing store security. Trying to escape in his car, he knocks down girlfriend who loses control of duck. Petco employee rushed to the duck's aid and his hit by suspect, who then drives into a parked car, and was later apprehended.

As I read about this it played in my mind as a silent-movie slapstick comedy, complete with the familiar ominous-tension double-time piano accompaniment.

Add a duck to any joke or story (my favorite joke features a duck) and you get instant funny. This can get in the way of seeing what really beautiful, and in a way very strange, these birds these really are.
