The Dildo Diaries

This is just hysterical.

Columnist Molly Ivins talks about the Texas legislature: Crazy regulations over what sex toys you can buy and for what purpose they can be sold, and passing a law banning "bad habits."

The Texas legislature has embarrassed itself with writing laws about sex ever since I can remember and I've been covering them for more than thirty years now. And it just seems to me that they ought to just give up the entire endeavor, it just embarrasses everybody when they do dipshit stuff like this.

If you don't know the general situation with the law here in Texas, it is as follows:
If you have six or more dildoes, you are considered a felon in this state, because it is assumed that you have intent to distribute. Whereas, if you have five or fewer, you are merely a hobbyist.

NSFW. Duh.

"Well, I have a friend that needs to be educated, too. So, that would be my purpose in buying one."

So [legislators Warren Chisum and Talmadge Hefflin], they are high-fiving and slapping each other on the back - a big double victory. So the guys in the press box call the Sargeant at Arms over and says "sergeant, we want you to go over and reprimand both those men, because under the provisions of the amendments just passed by representative Chisum, it is now illegal for a prick to touch an asshole in this state."

I love Molly Ivins. Debra Danburg (who questions Chisum on the floor of the legislature in this clip) was our state rep until redistricting allowed the Republicans to take over. My writing partner and I actually made fun of the dildo law in our book THE DEAL.

I've always loved her too.

This was particularly fun since it was the first I saw and heard her - the voice was exectly the one that I'd been playing in my head all these years.

I'm ordering the book, which I'm happy to plug for you.

Oh, thank you! If you enjoy it, feel free to tell the world!

I so enjoyed your photos from Africa. It's funny how familiar something can be, but when you see it photographed in the wild and know a person was THAT close--for some reason, one of the giraffe photos made my heart leap. It must have been amazing to see it all in person.
