More Harry

I wrote earlier of the story of a Georgia religous fuckwit's attempt to ban the Harry Potter books from school libraries. By way of update, it was reported that her appeal to the State Board of Education has been scheduled for October.

I'm beating a dead horse here, but, hey, it's fun.

Recall that this woman wants to impose on others a choice she has already made. She has not read the books, and wants others to be prevented from doing so.

She said she had done much of her research online, reading a variety of Christian message boards and Harry Potter fan sites.

Heh. I could refer her to some fan sites that would really curl her hair.

In other news, J.K. Rowling revealed that two major characters will die in book seven. As I immediately expected, this is great news for London bookies, who stand to do well on the speculation. When I last looked, Harry and Snape were the favorites with odds of 7/4. Interestingly, Harry's odds started out at 10/1 and have narrowed as people get used to the idea. I'm leaning the same way - at least because tackling such a plot could make for a heck of a book.
